We sat down with Samantha Penner, founder and editor of the style blog, The Peak of Très Chic, to learn more about her transition to interior design, vision for the future, and the inspiration behind her blog.
Tell us a little about your blog.
My blog, The Peak of Tres Chic, is my personal space to explore and share what's inspiring me in the fashion, interior design, travel, and entertaining realms.
What inspired you to start The Peak of Tres Chic?
I first started my blog in August 2011 when I was working in the energy industry, and was craving a creative outlet of some sort. I began helping friends decorate their homes and apartments, and really enjoyed the process! That led me to start blogging as a hobby. As I got more involved with my blog, I began realizing that interior design wasn’t just a hobby to me- it was a passion. I decided to leave my oil and gas job and go back to school at The Art Institute of Houston to pursue my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design.
What makes your approach different and unique?
One thing that is important to me when it comes to my blog is to try and be as authentic as possible with readers. I try and share bits and pieces of my own life so that people can see there's a real human behind all my design posts. I also only promote products and share links for items I truly do love myself!
Who are some other innovators/bloggers/designers that inspire you?
Lately, I'm very inspired by Maja Wyh's website and her specific style. Maybe it's the manner in which she is photographed, but it captivates me. I also love Lauren Santo Domingo's fashion and interior design aesthetic. Lauren is the co-founder of high-end luxury brand Moda Operandi and clearly leads a very chic life. Even so, she seems down-to-earth and I love her perspective.
At what point did you think, “now I've made it"?
I'm not sure that I've "made it" per se, but a definite career high was getting hired by Amanda Nisbet Design in NYC and making the move from Houston to the Big Apple. The design landscape is so competitive and fast-paced in NY, and I knew it would be an incredible learning experience and could certainly heighten my own ability as a designer.
Favorite beauty must have?
I cannot live without Lancome's Artliner in Noir. It makes creating a perfect winged liner easier than any other product I've found.
"I feel most beautiful when... "
I'm taking good care of myself (getting enough sleep, eating well, getting in regular workouts, etc.).
