Innovator Series: Dani Beckerman of Jars by Dani

Discovering Jars by Dani is a similar experience to finding out that perfection is now available for delivery. I was first introduced to the the heaven-in-a-jar a few months ago, when a friend of mine had several jars delivered instead of a cake for her birthday. Between the beautiful presentation and the fact that my spoon was soon scraping the bottom of the jar, I was immediately addicted. I got in touch with Dani, eager to hear the story of her flourishing company, and was shocked to find out that she had began Jars by Dani only six months ago. Just two years out of college, where she pursued a pre-med track at University of Maryland, Dani now finds herself the founder of her own creative, and delicious, startup.

Leaving her pre-med roots behind in pursuit of a different kind of science, Dani enrolled in culinary school upon arrival in New York. A few years later, putting her training and love of presentation to the test, she made desserts in a jar for her friends and posted a picture on Instagram. “I love jars, I find them so pretty, they make everything a little more elegant,” she told me over coffee on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Upon posting that infamous picture, she immediately received a slew of requests. Realizing her product was extremely marketable, she saw the potential to turn her passion for food into a full time job. She started renting out kitchen space a few times a week, spending hours trying out different combinations and flavors to create the perfect swoon and spoon-worthy desserts.

The most rewarding part of creating her own company? “I love the different people I get to meet and the satisfaction of watching it grow.” She began by making all of her deliveries in Manhattan personally, meeting all of her clients. Just six months later and she’s already looking into retail spaces and hiring to keep up with the ever-increasing demand.

She has five different flavors, among them her original Rainbow Bomb, a Cookie Dough Jar, a Peanut Butter Jar, and the vibrant Color Palette Cake. At our meeting, Dani brought me my very own jar, the Rainbow Bomb. Layers of fudge brownie, rainbow sprinkles, chocolate mousse, whipped cream, and chocolate chips all put together and delivered by a woman who is passionate about what she does. It tastes, looks and sounds like a winning combination to me.
